RESIDENT EVIL: Horror or Action?

Zach Creggers’ RESIDENT EVIL is filling the cinemas. And rightly so: the film offers fun splatter at its very best. Although it is based on the video game of the same name, it is NOT a remake of Paul W. S. Anderson’s original film adaptation (2002), but a reboot.

This doesn’t just apply to the story. Anderson’s version, for example, isn’t a horror film but an action-packed blockbuster: Milla Jovovich battles her way through the Umbrella Corporation’s laboratories as a sexy fighting machine.

Fancy a comparison? No problem: the Filmkunstvideothek, part of the b-ware cinema, has put together a shelf with five instalments of the Jovovich franchise available as DVD rentals for you. ‘Adventures in Film History’ for your home cinema.
