Friday the 13th at Camp Miasma

Queer meets fun splatter?! Not even Cannes could say no: *TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA* won the Queer Palm at the film festival. The media went wild too: “An explosive cocktail of fear and desire.” (Deadline)

Horror fans and film buffs are celebrating Jane Schoenbrun’s masterpiece for yet another reason: It references and parodies motifs and plotlines from FRIDAY THE 13TH, a horror series that began in 1980 as a surprise hit and is still awaiting further remakes and reboots to this day. Rarely have critics, teachers, educators, and guardians of youth and morality been so incensed as they were by this franchise. It was banned, confiscated and cut to pieces as much as the chainsaw would allow.

Frank N. Further forever: R.I.P. TIM CURRY

Speaking of snobbish critics: before *The Rocky Horror Picture Show* became a cult classic through its midnight screenings, pretentious film critics denounced it as degenerate, trashy and perverse. At the centre of it all: Frank N. Further, played by Tim Curry. It became his biggest hit.

Curry delivered another smash hit as the horror clown Pennywise in the first film adaptation of Stephen King’s *IT* (1990). Curry has now passed away at the age of 80.

11 September: THE ROCKY HORROR SHADOW CAST

Half a century ago, the late-night screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show regularly broke down the barrier between the screen and the audience: fans turned up dressed as their on-screen idols. During the wedding scene with Janet and Brad, grains of rice flew through the auditorium. And when the couple saw the illuminated castle in the night-time rain – noticing the light from the haunted castle at night – sparklers were set off in the audience.

In other words: the screenings of the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW turned into boozy, raucous collective parties. Fascinated by performers who linked the action on screen with live performance acts. And so, on 11 September 2026 at 10 pm, a shadow cast group will also transform the b-ware! Ladenkino into a spaceship from the planet Transsexual. THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: The cult lives on!
