NOSFERATU – The Extended Version on DVD!

The range of films in our Filmkunst video library is constantly growing. Come by, browse through our shelves or get advice from the team. We also regularly present some new acquisitions here. This time: NOSFERATU and THE CRAZY FAMILY.

In the early nineties, the film industry discovered a business model for re-utilizing films that had already been shown: Bringing the “directors cut” to theaters. A cut created by the director that shows his vision of the finished film. Famous example: The directors‘ cut of LEON, THE PROFESSIONAL (1994) exceeds the producer’s version by 22 minutes, deepening the complex relationship between the “cleaner” Leon and his student Mathilda. The same applies to Francis Ford Coppola’s APOKALYPSE NOW (1979): After the 40-minute longer “Redux” version, the earlier cinema version retroactively appears as a fragment, as pure mutilation. In Ridley Scott’s THELMA AND LOUISE (1991), on the other hand, only the final scene is replaced in the directors‘ cut – which nevertheless radically changes the message of the film.

Six months after the theatrical release of NOSFERATU – THE UNDEAD, an “extended version” has now been released on DVD. This is approx. 4 minutes longer than the cinema version. In addition, three “Deleted Scenes” (cut scenes) are included as bonus material. You can rent the DVD from our FILMKUNST video library for a mere 1.60 euros per day.

Another jewel among the new acquisitions: THE CRAZY FAMILY (1984). Back in theaters and on DVD after 40 years! “One of the best escalation comedies ever” (taz). A movie like a punk concert. From Japan’s star director Gakuryū Ishii, who was still making videos for bands like Einstürzende Neubauten at the time. Story: Employee Katsukuni Kobayashi dreams of a harmonious family life in his own suburban home. Difficult, because every member of his “crazy family” is walking dynamite. When termites nibble away at his house, Kobayashi discovers the amok runner in himself… Chaos! Trash! Amok – made in Japan. A jewel from wild times.
